At the invitation of Hon. Forrest, M.L.C. of Queensland, number of merchants inspected Queensland beef and dined off it at Imperial Institute. Forrest, said Colonies were large consumers of English goods, and they expected to get fair field for own products. He urged that Great Britain should foster Colonial trade to mutual advantage of both the Mother Country and her offshoots. She was compelled to import 32 per cent of meat, while Avstralia, exclusive of ,N. Z., scarcely supplied one per cent. Sir S. Samuel said they had no right to expect England to show them favor if it was not deserved. Colonial meat must be judged on its intrinsic merits, and if it could not stand the test it would suffer.
Chinese 7 per cent loan in London was oversubscribed.
