The debate on the Financial Statement was continued, C. Mills supporting the Budget, W. Hutchison, Joyce and O’Regan objecting to some features, but generally supporting. Kelly and Hone Heke adversely criticised the
Govt proposals, after which Ward replied and the House went into Committee of Supply. The first item, salary for N taive Members of Executive, £4OO, was only item passed. House adjourned at 2.15 a.m., Saturday. Tonight’s Post contains the report of an interview with Sir R, Stout, and extracts from letters sent by Mrs Ballance to Stout bearing out Stout’s assertion that Ballance wished him to laed the Liberal Party.
