In Council. Friday : Replying to Jenkinson, Montgomery said if local bodies declined to carry out functions re the inspection of dairies Govt would legislate to meet the difficulty. Poisons Importation Bill referred to Select Committee.
fn House, Friday : Premier moved that appointment of Sergeant-at-Arma be-deferred until Ist December, Fraser to perform duties in meantime without pay. Whole sitting was devoted to its discussion. Stout, 8011, Capt. Russell, G. J. Smith and Pirani speaking against it. Bell declared he would not be a party to such a ‘ trick, dodge and scheme.’ Motion was carried soon after midnight by 34 to 13, Montgomery, Pirani and G. J. Smith voting against it.
