FOOTBALL.

[By Oval.]

Rather unexpectedly, advice has been received by the Secretary of the local Club that r. team representing the neighbouring County will visit Kaikoura next week, coming up from Waiau on Friday and playing Kaikoura on Saturday. This is welcome news, indeed, to the wearers of the cardinal and bluo, and it behoves members of the K.C.F.C. to put in the intervening time as advantageously as possible.

The visitors are almost sure to be a strong team, if the past representation of Amtiri is to be accepted as any criterion. While the Kaikoura team of today is not—on paper, at any rate —to be compared with that of a few seasons since.

Kaikoura will miss 11. Stanlake, Kearney, Breckels, J. Paap, F. Paap, Galway, Tarawhiti, Marshall, 11. Cote, Jas. Davidson, Prior, F. Renner, Rainbow, S. Fraser, Schmidt, W Wood, and others.

Why, a whole team dispersed and wandered ; reminding one of Ilan’s Breitman’s party :

‘ Where is dot bai ty now ?

Well, I hope that the ‘bovs’ will pull themselves together for the occasion ; play a winning game from the kick-off, but withall a generous and manly game, without displaying anv illfeeling, or unsportsmanlike behaviour. And if they are beaten—why, take the beating as many better men have had to do before, and will again.
