WELLINGTON, June 4 H. D. Bell, M.H.R., is to be appointed Danish Consul for N. Z. New Zealand delegates, who have been attending' Wesleyan Conference at Adelaide, returned by Rotokino, which arrived from Sydney this morning. Dr and Mrs Lamb of the New Hebrides mission, were also passengers by the vessel. Post states that members of the old Opposition have decided not to appoint a leader or form an organised party this session. There will, therefore, be no regular Opposition. Mr Mttchelson will sit in Mr Rolleston’s seat, and Captain Russell in Sir John Hall’s. Juue 7 Obituary —Crombie, Commissioner of Taxes.
DUNEDIN, June 4
Sergeant Neill, in charge of Port Chalmers police station, died very suddenly today from the bursting of a blood vessel in the stomach. He was about sixty years of age. Professorial Board of the University received notice of a general redaction of salaries.
The Jockey Club intend reducing salaries, including those of handicapper and secretary.
