THE KAIKOURA STAR KAIKOURA, JUNE 5, 1894.

Tenders are invited for work by the County Council. The Ashley Licensing Committee meet, at Amberley, today. The mysterious disapperance of rabbit skins from three stations in this district is causing some talk. Messrs G. L. Beath & Co., advertise elsewhere the last days of their great sale here. This is positively their last week. Rang(a)tera, not rang(i)tera, as a northern exchange has it, is the correct spelling of the Maori for a chief. Mr Scaife has been appointed Stock Inspector of the South Island, with headquarters at Dunedin. We congratulate him on his promotion. Mr Sturrock, of Napier, is the successful candidate for the office of head master of the Blenheim public school. Mr Lucas bad charge of the school up to the time of his death.

The North Otago Times has procured the following rather amusing information from the Rocky Mountains Celt : —‘ A revolution has broken out in New Zealand. Mr Stout is leading the Government forces, and a man named Seddon is in charge of the rebels.’ The Lyttelton Times Cheviot correspondent writes : —Telephone communication has been established between Cheviot and Port Robinson. A Good Templars’ Lodge is to be opened here shortly. The road viH the Bluff will be fit for foot traffic in a few days. There was no sitting of the Magistrate's Court last week, William Smith, Esq., being the only Justice in attendance. This proved annoying to some of the litigants, as they were inconvenienced through the absence of a Bench, and wishes were expressed in favour of adding to the list of local Justices.

The Directors of the Dairy Factory Company met on Saturday afternoon and accepted the tender of Mr Wm. Cooke for the erection of tbe Factory premises. It is very gratifying that the work has fallen into the hands of a local contractor, and the Directors congratulate themselves that it is one who is thoroughly reliable—indeed none more so in the Colony.
