Minister of Lands (Mclntyre) had lively time of it at hands of deputation of women who waited on him to protest against treatment of Robertson, Secretary of Struam Robertson Village settlement. Minister told the deputation that Robertson bad accused him of being intoxicated when be visited the settlement. *So you were,’ replied one lady, another, coaxingly addressed him, saying ‘ But it’s not so very dreadful to get tipsy.’ The Minister denied he was intoxicated and declined request of members of deputation, who left indigantly, thanking goodness they would soon have another Minister of Lands.
SYDNEY May 15 The Boot Manufacturers’ Association agreed this morning to reopen factories tomorrow morning on distinct understanding that they are to be permitted to employ Union or non Union labor. May 16
At meeting of boot operatives last night it was resolved not to resume work until men receive assurance that wages will not be reduced. It was decided to reserve right of working or refusing to work alongside non-Union-ists.
