Severe Earthqakes in Greece.
A Terrible Ordeal.
ATHENS, April 28 Earthquakes have caused widespread havoc throughout country. Atlantia is nearly in ruins. Hundreds of families there, and elsewhere, are homeless. Shock occurred while service was being held in cathedral in the city, which was crowded. Panic amongst congregation was only delayed by presence of mind of Tricoupis. Thebes is utterly destroyed by renewed shocks. Estimated' fully 300 people killed.
ATHENS, April 29 As reports come in from districts affected by earthquakes, ravages are shown to be much more extensive than supposed.
Hundreds of thousands of people have been rendered homeless. The whole coast line from opposite Larissa to Theremopyle has been laid disolate, and sea has encroached upon the land. Elsewhere torrents of boiling water were upheaved from fissures in the earth, adding to the horrors of the scene.
April 30 Unfortunate inhabitants of stricken districts are spending their nights in the open air, praying for mercy. Shocks still continue, and extensive fissures are riven in the ground. Mountain Gorges are greatly affected.
