REUTEItS' CABLEGRAMS. [BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH. Tho Arawata at the Bluff brings tho following news per Cuzco, -10 days out from London. September 24th. Four large London firms havo been invited to tender for the supply of corrugated iron for huts to accommodate one hundred thousaud Russian soldiers in winter quarters. The iron to be delivered at Antwerp and, senc thence direct to Bucharest. Delivery to commence in ten days, and the whole order completed in a fortnight afterwards. The interest over Stantons and Alice Rhode for the Penge murder was intense. The approaches to the Old Bailey were best, aud the Court itself so closely packed as to render the atmosphere absolutely poisonous. The Bench itself was packed with fashionable, gorgeously dressed ladies. The railway bridge (largest in the • world) spanning the estuary of tlie Tay, two miles wide, was opened on Soptetuber 25th. The jury on the bodies of the men drowned by the Avalauche collision re- ! turned a verdict of " found drowned "and I added a rider that they were much pained i to sco the way in which deceased were buried, and that had the least intimation been given they theniKclves would havo followed the remains to tho grave. The victims are mostly peasants with soinu priests and schoolmasters. Torture is frequently inflicted, and sirailar scenes arc being cpI acted in all the surrounding villages. Additional European news per Ouzo?. A meeting of the clergy and laity of Bristol and Clifton has been held, Bishop Anderson presiding, in opposition to tho practice of auricular confession. A memorial to the Qaeen was adopted, and is to bo circulated for signature throughout tho city. The memorial prays that Her Majesty bo graciously pleasod to take such means as may be effectual to put down tho practice, of auricular confession within tbe sphere of tChurch of England. The Rev. Frederick Millet, Vicar of AU Saints, West Bromwitoh, appeared at tho Birmingham Police Court to answer an affiliation summons takon out against him by Martha Whito, 18 years old. Defendant was said to be a member of the Society of tho " Holy Cross.'' and it was alleged he had corrupted and seduced complainant through the confessional. A Commission of Enquiry presided over by the Bishop of Litchfield has been held and has declared the allegations of complainant to be unfounded. The present proceedings are understood to be to some extent promoted by the parishioners of defendant. The case was partly heai*d at the Police Court and adjpurned. A telegram from Constantinople, dated September 21st, says there has- been much , talk ior some days of the probability of mediation betweeu Russian and- Turkey.. Although the rumour was without foundation the Porte has been, disturbed by it because ifc dreads a demand being mado ( for an armistice, which it is fknily resolved to reject, but which might cause diplomatic difficulties. It is for this reason tbat the Ottoman Ministers tako every opportunity of indirectly giving the ambassadors to understand how littlo chance ot success a demand of tbis sort would have.
