PIPIROA LADIES’ MEET

INSTITUTE AFTERNOON COLLECTION OF WASTE PAPER The monthly meeting of the Pipiroa Women’s Institute was held in the Pipiroa Hall on Wednesday, April 19, and opened with prayer. Mrs M. Scott presided over a smaller attendance than usual, due to the inclement weather. The president pointed out how one and all could help the war effort by saving all waste paper and it was decided that each and every member bring all-waste paper to each meeting, to be sent to Auckland. It was also decided to form a knitting circle for patriotic purposes. The sales table under the direction of Mrs Powell did brisk business. The roll call, “The most interesting man I have met,” brought forth varied and interesting reminiscences. Great fun was caused by the guessing of who was who in childhood photographs, the winners being Mrs A. McAuley and Mrs J. Brown. Mrs M. Grbic gave a very interesting and instructive demonstration on macaroni making. Mrs E. Keane was appointed delegate to the forthcoming conference in Auckland. A prize donated by Mrs A. McAuley was won by Mrs J. Brown. The result of the competition was:— Best bloom.—Mrs A. McAuley, 1 i and 2. Mesdames Don Dalgety and M. Grbic were hostesses for the day.

The singing of the National Anthem concluded the meeting.
