PARCELS FOR PRISONER OF WAR
MANGATARATA WOMEN MEET
The monthly meeting of the iMangatarata Women’s Division was held in the school recently, Mrs W. Cropp presiding over a good attendance. Word had been received from the Red Cross that permission was granted, them for the adoption of prisoner of war Pte. T. Burke, whom they said had not received a next-of-kin parcel since 1942. The sum of £5 was allocated, for the purpose of sending the first parcel. Wool was received to knit up for the Merchant Navy and several members undertook to do this. The best bloom competition resulted. —Mrs Leo Main 1, Mrs B. Main 2, Mrs G. Hall 3. A guessing competition, the prize, ’being a dressed goose, donated by Mrs T. Harris, brought in the sum of £3. This was won by Mr B. Harris who handed it back to the division. The afternoon tea was daintily served by Mesdames T. O’Brien and Mrs C. Arthur, and the rest of the afternoon was spent in the making of flower sprays and button holes to be sold at the evening dance in aid of patriotic funds.
