PA EROA PARENTS’ ASSN.

(To the Editor.) Sir, —Attention is drawn to the annual meeting of the Paeroa Parents’ Association, which will be held on Tuesday, May 2, in the Labour Party Room. The business is to elect a president, vice-president, secretary and committee for the ensuing year. It is hoped there will be a good attendance of parents and others interested in the welfare and happiness of the children of the school. The public is reminded that no one can be nominated at the meeting unless her permission has been obtained prior to the meeting. Most of the people of Paeroa are by now familiar with the activities of this association, which works quietly, but nevertheless has accomplished a great deal in the last few years. The association was first formed to protest against the secondary school pupils being lodged in the primary school building, and to endeavour to obtain a separate building for them. Then the association turned its attention to the unsatisfactory conditions under which the infant department worked, with the result that, at long last, two additional rooms are now being provided at the secondary school, which will house Forms I. and 11., thus enabling the infant department to be accommodated in the main primary school building.

“The association was also instrumental in obtaining ointments and medicines for the Maori children who needed them, and the infant mistress administers these on the advice of the school doctor and the district nurse.

“The primers’ annual fancy dress party is now an established event every Christmas and the work of the association in this respect is largely known; but it is not generally known that the profits derived from this party founded a library for the infants, and have since kept it going. “The hard work put into the procuring of funds for a picture projector is well known, and although the projector 2has been on order for some months, we are not impatient, for we recognise the difficulties of these times.

“The association has also provided funds for the purchase of forty film strips, which have also been ordered, and will be ready for use the moment the projector is installed. “The association has also inaugurated an annual garden party at the high school, which brings together for a happy, friendly afternoon, parents, teachers, scholars and school committee. Therefore, parents, you are asked to give the annual meeting your support and if unable to attend, you can do your bit for the children of Paeroa by joining the association and thus backing up the executive and giving them your encouragement.—l am, etc., M. iGLEADOW, Hon. Secretary, Paeroa Parents’ Association.
