FOREST RESERVE
THAMES-HIKUAI AREA INSPECTION BY MINISTER An inspection of certain forest reserve land between Thames and Hikuai was made by the Under-Secre-tary for Lands in November last, said a letter from the Minister of Lands forwarded to the April meeting of the Thames County Council. The Under-Secretary reported that there was about 2000 acres of unplanted State forest, that could be ploughed in the upper Tairua valley some miles above the Hikuai settlement. He was, however, definitely doubtful about -the possibilities of this area for development and settlement, and was unable to recommend the uplifting of the State forest reservation.
A final decision on the matter had not yet been made. The Minister hoped to be able to inspect the area himself and would endeavour to do so as soon as possible.
