PAEROA INSTITUTE

MONTHLY MEETING HELD

WINNERS OF COMPETITIONS

A very successful meeting was held by the Paeroa Women’s Institute on Tuesday, April 18 in the Civic Hall. The Women’s Institute Aspiration was read, followed by the Institute Prayer. Several apologies were received and

new members nominated. Included in the correspondence was a letter from the Returned Services Association asking for the assistance of the institute members on Poppy Day as in previous years. Items of interest were given from the garden and drama circles. Rehearsals are to commence for a play written by Mrs E. Mitchell.

It was decided to hold the “Arts and Crafts” afternoon at the residence of Mrs George. Mrs V. Turton in her report on patriotic affairs reminded members of the stall, to be held by the 'Ladies’ Croquet Club. Gifts of cooking, preserves, etc., would be welcome. Mrs M. A. Hollinshead was chosen to attend the May conference of the A.D.F.W.I. as delegate from Paeroa Institute.

An interesting debate, '“Double Beds v. Single Beds,” was held. Mrs V. Turton kindly read letters received by her from her son, now

serving- in Italy, describing his experience in a snow storm. Winners of the monthly competitions were:— Apple tart.—Mes’dames Hollinshead, Whisker, Pearson, triple dead heat, 1. Handkerchief made from cotton material. —Mrs <D. Pearson. Best bloom. — Mesdames Hili, Marsh, Williams, triple dead heat, I. Garden Club.—Chrysanthemums: Mrs M. A. Hollinshead. Potatoes: Mrs E. M.
