DRAIN SILTING UP

SETTLERS COMPLAIN TO BOARD FARM DRAINS NOT EMPTYING Pointing out that the roadside drain fronting her property near the Huirau factory had silted up considerably during the past three or four years, especially under the wattle trees, Mrs S. Deane wrote to the April meeting of the Hauraki United Drainage Board asking them to deepen it. Mrs Deane pointed out that the fall in the drain was much less than in the past as her farm drains would not empty at present. The chairman, Mr C. K. Fox said he considered it quite a reasonable request. The clerk, Mr J. E. Green, said that the drain had silted up and that nearly nine inches could be taken out. It was decided to do the work as soon as labour was available.
