VAN OVER BANK

DRIVER PINNED IN TRUCK ACCIDENT NEAR PAEROA NARROW ESCAPE OF OWNER Severe cuts about the head and bruising were suffered by Mr W. E. Keutenius of Paeroa this morning when his van left the road and rolled down the bank near the Puke bridge. Mr Keutenius who supplies a part of Paeroa with milk was returning to the town after collecting his supply from Awaiti when he missed the road in the early, morning fog. The accident occurred about 200 yards beyond the Paeroa side of the Puke bridge. In an endeavoui’ to regain the road Mr Keutenius turned the front of the vehicle towards the road but the van rolled down, the 'bank, pinning the driver underneath it and the cans of milk. Mr Keutenius was unable to release himself and had to wait undei* the van

for approximately a quarter of an hour until Mr E. iSchofield of Awaiti came to his assistance. The van had to be jacked up before Mr Keutenius could be released. He was attended by Dr. F. L. Clark and at present is confined to his bed. Mr Keutenius’ brother, Mr S. Keutenius, secured a fresh supply of milk and completed the delivery in the town.
