RED cross function OVER 200 PEOPLE ATTEND VERY SUCCESSFUL AFTERNOON Easter Saturday was a busy day for the Whitianga Patriotic Committee when the marvellous result of the Red Cross Appeal realised £57 nett. ..The only expense was 14s. The programme included, a dance held after the pictures. Mrs L. Rose supplied the music. The stalls did brisk business. A lovely array of vegetables, beautiful sponges, jams, pickles, eggs, fruit, etc., were set out for sale. The ladies each broug ht a plate of lovely cakes for afternoon tea. Every home in the district contributed to such a worthy cause. Some unable to attend offered their shillings or pounds and two cheques of £5 5s each were given as well. The finding of “Nosey Parker” caused a lot of amusement. Mrs E. Broad was the successful winner of the prize.
