SCHOOL COMMITTEES ELECTIONS WEDNESDAY POOR ATTENDANCE AT PAEROA Householders right throughout the Thames Valley on the whole showed very little interest in the biennial elections of school committees which were held throughout the Auckland Education Board’s district on Wednesday night. Nominations for the committees for the larger schools closed on April 5 in order to allow time for 1 the printing and circulating of the,names of candidates. In some districts a women’s movement was reported to be operating with a view a securing greater representation of women on committees but little such activity was shown locally and few women took office.

All residents in each school area who are over the age of 21 and who have lived in the district for three months, with the exception of boarders and lodgers, are entitled to vote. A father or guardian of a child wherever resident, who has the custody of a child attending a public school in any district is eligible to vote for the committee of that school. At Paeroa a meeting of householders was attended by merely His Worship the Mayor, Mr Edwin Edwards, who presided, and those who been nominated for the .committee, together with the headmaster, Mr A. E. Day, and a press representative. The committee elected was as follows:—Messrs C. C. Webb (chairman), S. Wheeler (secretary), J. H. Walmsley (treasurer), S. T. Oliver, H. Follas, O. A. H. Allison, R. W. Roberts, T. I. Jenkins, and A. F. Thorp.

FEW AT KOMATA MERELY COMMITTEE PRESENT There was a very poor attendance of householders at Komata for the election of a school committee on Wednesday night, the total attendance being merely those nominated for the committee together with a press representative. The new committee comprises Messrs J. F. Murray (chairman), J. W. Armstrong (secretarytreasurer), R. Kilgour, V. Hooper and A. Morrison. NO COMMITTEE ELECTED POSITION AT TIROHIA There were not sufficient householders present at Tirohia on Wednesday night to elect the school committee, the attendance being merely eight including the headmaster and three of these were not available for nomination. The report and balance-sheet was presented to the meeting and a chairman was appointed to contact the Auckland Education Board so that a further meeting of householders could be called when it is ; hoped sufficient will attend to elect a committee. HIKUTAIA MEETING 19 HOUSEHOLDERS ATTEND Nineteen householders attended the meeting at Hikutaia on Wednesday night to elect a school committee as under:—Messrs A. McCollum (chairman), E. Bax, H. iSmith, M. Hanlen, D. Winfield. Mr P. Sutton, former chairman of the committee did not seek re-election. WELL ATTENDED GOOD MEETING AT KEREPEEHI The meeting of householders held at Kerepeehi on Wednesday night to elect a school committee was well attended, between 40 and '5O people being present. The committee elected was as under: —Messrs A. Strong (chairman), S. Garrett (secretary-treasurer), R. Hill, W. Bailey, D. Ferguson. W. Benney and R. Harvey. WAITAKARURU MEETING SCHOOL BATHS WANTED Some nineteen people attended) the meeting of househoulders held at Waitakaruru on Wednesday night to elect a school committee for the next two years. The new committee is as under* —Messrs L. Bates (chairman), G. Adams (secretary), Mesdames C. Coxhead, W. J. Bathurst, Messrs S. G. Baigent, T. Rawson and T. Hubble. The meeting was most enthusiastic and it was decided to endeavour to arrange for a swimming pool to be built in the school grounds and for more concrete to be laid. 22 HOUSEHOLDERS ATTEND GOOD MEETING AT TURUA Twenty-two people attended the meeting of householders held at

Turua on Wednesday njght when the following school committee was elected:—Messrs J. A. Pye (chairman), H. R. Baker (secretary-treas-urer), C. V. Marceau, :S. Marshall, R. B. Madgwick, J. Millington, L. Petersen. POSITION DOUBTFUL ERROR IN COUNTING VOTES Some 20-odd people attended the meeting of householders at Netherton on Wednesday night to elect a school committee, the following being nominated, Mrs F. A. JDurman, Messrs J. Gordon, B. Broad, E. Hartley, H. Jefferies, L. Sanderson, J. Simpson, C. A. Stembridge, M. Meades, R. Morrison, C. Hislop. ’After the close of the meeting it was discovered that an error had been made in the counting of the votes and the secretary has written to the Auckland Education Board for direction. MEETING AT NGATEA FAIR ATTENDANCE There was a fair attendance at the meeting of householders held at Ngates. on Wednesday night to elect the Ngatea District High School Committee. The committee selected was as follows: —Messrs D. A. Waite (chairman), E. Cocks (secretarytreasurer), S. Phelps, H. Dalgety, W. Jones, R. Williams, L. E. Jackson, H. Hayward and' T. Sydenham. PIPIROA MEETING ELECTION OF COMMITTEE The following committee was elected at a meeting of householders held at 'Pipiroa on Wednesday night: —Messrs E. Scott (chairman), E. Keane (secretary-treasurer), J. Clark, A. Walker and H. Schwarz. ONLY TWO ATTEND POSITION AT KOPUARAHI Only two people attended the meet ing of householders held at Kopuarahi on Wednesday night to elect a school committee and the executive of the old committee has now written to the Auckland Education Board seeking direction.
