LOCAL & GENERAL

Fertiliser For Next Season The attention of readers is drawn to the notice which appears in oui* advertising columns on page 1 of this issue regarding fertiliser appeals for the 1944-45 season. First Jeep In Coromandel The first jeep to be seen in Coromandel appeared during the week and caused quite a stir of interest, particularly among the younger section of the residents. Cold Snap

An exceptionally sudden cold snap in the weather has taken place in Coromandel which is l very noticeable after the very warm spell experienced here recently. Alterations To Shop Alterations are being made to an existing shop in Coromandel and on enquiry it transpires that a restaurant is shortly being- opened. This will answer a very long-felt want in the township. Public Hall Wanted Considerable speculation is abroad in Coromandel as to the future of St. George’s Hall. As a public amenity for holding farewells and dances, etc., the popular* opinion of a number of residents seems to. be in favour of the Coromandel County Council making some move in the matter of acquiring a building which could more or less take the place of a muchneeded municipal building, a town hall. As St. George’s Hall is the only one in Coromandel where public dances may be held, the recent advertisement to the effect that the building is for sale or lease has given rise to many and varied suggestions and ideas. The lack of a permanent lighting system in the hall at present is a drawback and it is hoped that something will shortly be done in the matter.
