LACK OF INTEREST

SCHOOL AT WAITAKARURU ELECTION OF THE COMMITTEE The chairman of the Waitakaruru School Committee speaking to a Gazette representative recently expressed concern regarding the lack of interest shown formerly by the residents and particularly the parents' in the school committee election. At the last biennial meeting there was an attendance of only four and both the chairman, Mr Donaldson, and the secretary, Mr Bates, have been compelled to take office owing to the lack of interest shown by parents. He said that he felt that with so many young families now in the district, it would be all to the good of the school if the parents would come forward and give those who have done such a good job of work for so long, a well-earned rest.

Attention has recently been focussed on the need for women to take their place on committees of local interest and surely one which concerns the young people will appeal to all mothers. The Women’s Institute and The Women’s Division have had appeals from their headquarters to this effect and so it is fully expected and so it is fully expected that with with the forthcoming election a fully representative meeting will be held, and there will be no need to have the remark passed that there is apathy shown in this direction.
