SOCIAL CREDIT GROUP

ANNUAL MEETING IN PAEROA CURRENCY & CREDIT CONTROL The Paeroa Social Credit Group held its annual meeting at the residence of the secretary on the evening of March 23 under the chairmanship of Mr H. Jeffries. The group starts off with a membership much in excess of official requirements and the possibility of obtaining more new members in the near future appears quite certain. The secretary was. instructed to communicate with Mr John Hogan in reference to having Senator Darcey visit Paeroa during his lecture tour in New Zealand. As Mr Stanley Burton, the North Island secretary of the Real Democracy Movement, has recently received from Mr L. D. Byrne (economic adviser to the Government of Alberta) a set of proposals for the R.D.M’s. consideration, it was considered an excellent idea by those prestent at the meeting that a copy of these proposals be obtained by the group for a studied perusal. It was unanimously decided that the group make postal contact with the leaders of religious bodies and institutions in the Thames electorate so that various fundamental and vital aspects of Christian economics could be, with respect and humility, brought to their notice from time to time. A letter written by the secretary to Mr J. Thorn, M.P. in reference to attempts that are apparently now being made to impose, amongst other things, upon this and other countries, a foreign “international” currency and credit control was read to those present and the reply from Mr Thom being considered entirely unsatisfactory it was decided that he be again communicated with at an early date regarding this very serious and vital matter. It was decided to hold future meetings once a month and to introduce a short debate into each gathering for the benefit of interested members. The meeting proved to be quite interesting and instructive and terminated at 11.40 p.m.
