TURUA FOOTBALL CLUB ANNUAL MEETING HELD SOUND FINANCIAL POSITION The annual meeting of the Turua Football Club was held in the Turua Buildings on Wednesday night, the chairman, Mr C. K. Fox, presiding over a good attendance of members. The treasurer, Mr H. Glasgow, reported that the club had a credit balance of £35 5s 9d which put the club in a very sound position financially. The secretary’s annual report read as under: — “I have much pleasure in presenting to you a report of the Turua Football Club. “The 1943 season was a very brilliant one both from the success of our junior and third-grade teams, also our financial position. Both Teams Do Well “During the season we were fortunate enough to win in both grades in which our teams were entered. Our third-grade team is to be very highly praised on then’ effort and more especially on the keenness they displayed in fielding a full team each Saturday, showing their determination to win their competition which they carried into effect. “Our junior team is also worthy of the highest praise on the part they played in adding to the success of the club.
“As you are all aware the third grade won the Thames Old Boys’ Cup by winning the competition and were runners up for the Clark Good Conduct Cup.
“The juniors did very well under the difficulties which faced them when
playing on their home ground as it was unable to field a full team but. this was not the case when the team was taken to Thames as a full team was fielded there. This team also showed their worth by winning the Blomfield Shield and Cup, also the much-cov-eted Dovell Good Conduct Cup by a good margin of points. “Since the close of the season there has been a small group of players who have joined the Army and: Navy and to these I wish all of the best and a safe return. They are: R. Olsen, J. Johnson, R. Flint and H. Christensen.
“I have also to extend the thanks of the club for the support received from the various donors also to the very liberal response of the vicepresidents. Flayers’ subscriptions were very good but these could- have been much better. Election of Officers
“The season was closed with a dance held in Turua which turned out a real success and placed the club in a very sound financial position. “Last but not least we must not forget to thank the ladies who gave their services to make our function a success. I also extend our thanks to. those who have not been mentioned in this report. “It might also be mentioned that a savings bank account was opened and all the club’s finances were deposited therein, with Mr Fox and Mr Marceau as trustees.” The election of officers resulted as under: —
