CLEARING WASTE LAND

STEPS TAKEN ON THE PLAINS GROWTH OF NOXIOUS WEEDS Steps which he had taken to secure funds for the clearing of noxious weeds from waste, native and Crown reserves on the canal and river banks of the Hauraki Plains was reported by the clerk, Mr E. A. Mahoney, to the March meeting of the Hauraki Plains County Council. The report read as under: — “As there now appears to be some labour available for the purpose, I have applied to the Department of Agriculture, Auckland, for a grant of £3OO for clearing blackberry from waste and native lands and Crown reserves on canal and river banks. “ It is not likely that any moneys will be actually paid before April 1, but there is no reason why the work should not be proceeded with while labour is available. The council will be expected to find transport, tools and supervision.”
