Rowlatt, who has walked over many miles of the back-country of Australia, recently set out to walk from Thames to Wellington by way of the Coromandel Peninsula and the Bay of Plenty. On the way she accepted a few lifts, but most of the distance she covered on foot. In the last 20 1 years Mrs Rowlatt has covered many hundreds of miles on foot throughout New Zealand. Returns Of Land Due Furnishing a return of land is an annual duly imposed by law cn all .landowners who at noon on March 31 hold land cf an unimproved value according to the Government valuation in excess of £5OO. The unimproved value is the value of the land exclusive of buildings, fencing, and other improvements. Forms are obtainable at all post offices. Persons fatally injured in road accidents in 1943 numbered- 129, compared with 136 in the previous year, according to the monthly Abstract of Stratistics. The total number of people injured l was 2605, as against 2384 in 1942. The majority of accidents were a result of collisions, this being so in 1744 cases. Pedestrians were involved in 537 collisions and cyclists in 448.

Radio Programmes Criticised Criticism of radio programmes broadcast by Government stations was voiced at a meeting of the Canterbury School Committees’ Association recent ly. “Some of the stuff that is coming over from the commercial stations ill becomes people like Professor Shelley,” said Mr J. G. Brown. He particularly criticised the broadcasting of certain serials.
