WOMEN’S DIVISION
MANGATARATA BRANCH MEETS HEALTHY STATE OF FINANCES The monthly meeting of the Mangatarata Branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union was held in the old school on Wednesday last. .Mrs Cropp presided over a large attendance. Apologies were received from three members. The secretary-ereasurer, Mrs B. Main read the minutes and financial report, the latter (being in a healthy state and behoves well for the success 1 of this newly formed branch. From the funds in hand it was decided to* forward' £3 to the Nelson Rest Home. Mrs B. Main also gave a comprehensive report on a provincial meeting which she attended recently in Paeroa. The roll call “Uses of Lemons” was well responded to and many new uses were given for this fruit. The competition winners were as follows: — Best bloom. —Mrs Lawrence 1, Mrs Hall 2, Mrs L. Main 3. Spray made from bread crumbs. — Mrs S. Wilson. Crochet D’Oyley, donated by Miss Marshall.—Mrs Jellie 1. A demonstration on feltex bag making was given to an enthusiastic audience by Mrs S. Wilson. Arrangements -were finalised for the produce stall which the Division is taking charge of at the forthcoming- sports day to be held by Mangatarata and Waitakaruru districts. It was decided to approach the Red Cross for the purpose of adopting a prisoner of war to whom parcels would be sent. A pleasant afternoon was concluded with the singing of the National Anthem.
