STIRRING LOVE STORY PROGRAMME AT REGENT FINE DRAMATIC PERFORMANCE Hailed by the critics as one of the great novels of our generation and America’s Number One Best-seller for many months, Eric Knight’s “This Above All,” has at last been brought to the screen by 20th. Century-Fox and will show at the Regent Theatre Saturday, Monday and Tuesday. Co-starring Tyrone Power and Joan Fontaine, the film was produced ‘by Darryl F. Zanuck, Academy Award producer, under the directorial aegis of Anatole Litvak. The screenplay was fashioned by R. C. Sherriff, famed author of “Journey’s End.” , Telling the story of two young lovers caught in the turmoil of war in Britain, “This Above All” has aptly been termed “the first great love story of our generation.” It takes the two principal characters through a great emotional crisis, which everyman and woman is facing to-day, and brings them through to a decision which is fundamentally vital for the continuance of their happiness together. Featured in the cast of the film are Thomas Mitchell, Henry Stephenson, Nigel Bruce, Gladys Cooper, Philip Merivale, Sara Allgood, and Alexander Knox. Their performances have been acclaimed by previewers as outstanding. Fresh from his triumphs in “Son Of Fury” and .“A Yank In The R.A.F.,” Power is said to turn in the finest dramatic performance of his career, while Joan Fontaine, as the young W.A.A.F. recruit, demonstrates conclusively why she was awarded the Academy Award for the best performance by an actress for “This Above All” has been faithfully brought to the screen, with all of its dramatic and emotional values intact. Producer Zanuck has seen to it that the story retains all the elements which made it so great a success in novel form. Already adjudged a great film, it is bound to be reckoned among the best of the year.
“This Above All” is a stirring story of love in this war-shadowed generation. Movie-goers are assured' of a tremendous emotional experience.
FINALLY TO-NIGHT DOUBLE FEATURE “Rhythm Of The Islands,” and “Mug Town” will show finally tonight at the Regent Theatre.
