OUTSTANDING WORK
WOMEN’S VOLUNTARY SERVICE DOING OUTSTANDING WORK The .splendid work' being done in England by women’s organisations was outlined by Her Excellency La-l.v Newall, when she addressed -nenibers of the Canterbury (N.Z.) Travel Club recently. One big organisation that did outstanding work was the Women’s Voluntary Service, organised by Lady Reading, whom Lady Newall described as a democratic, wise and lovable woman. This service comprised hundreds of members, drawn from all walks of life. The women’s institutes were other groups, Her Excellency said, that were doing excellent work. In one town where she stayed, members of the institute were engaged in making hundreds of pounds of jam. The ration of jam was one pound a month. Lady Newall exhorted members to send to their friends in England all the jam, sweet fruit, marmalade or chocolate they could, spare.
