NEED FOR PUBLIC HALL
SUGGESTED MEMORIAL CHAMBER OF COMMERCE *wwm«w** A suggestion that a public hall should be erected in Paeroa after the war to commemorate the memory of those who paid the supreme sacrifice in the present conflict and at the same time supply an amenity which is badly needed in the town, was made by Mr P. H. Leigh at Thursday night’s meeting of the Paeroa Chamber of Commerce. Mr Leigh emphasised the need for a suitable hall in Paeroa at which public functions could be held. He emphasised the shortage of such halls which existed in Paeroa to-day. The Paeroa District Patriotic Committee, he said, wished to hold a welcome home function for men at present back in New Zealand on furlough and there was only one small hall available for the purpose. Morrinsville, he pointed out, had erected a very suitable hall and he urged that Paeroa should do similarly. The hall could, he was sure, be built from funds raised by public subscription. The question of whether the hall would be a paying propostion or not should not .come into the picture, said Mr Leigh who pointed out that few public amenities did pay their way.
