TURUA FAREWELL

PRESENTATION MADE TWO SOLDIERS HONOURED SUCCESSFUL DANCE HELD A farewell dance in honour of Ptes. R. Olsen and J. Johnston, was held in the Turua Hall on Wednesday night, March 8 when there was a big attendance of the public and a very pleasant evening was spent. During the evening Mr H. H. Hicks in presenting the guests *of honour with a cheque each said it was very gratifying to see such a large gathering to do honour to two of the bestknown families in Turua. An invitation had been sent to Pte. lan Palmer of Mt. Albert (and late of Turua) to be present but he had sent a telegram saying he was sorry but could not be present. Continuing, Mr Hicks said that the two boys farewelled had other brothers overseas. Mr F. Olsen has had five sons serving overseas as well as a daughter in the W.A.A.C’s., while Mr Johnston had three sons away, one son, Bert, now being home on furlough.. Grown Up Together

Roy and John had grown up together, said Mr Hicks and where one was seen the other was not far away. They were going to carry on the good work of their brothers and on behalf of all present he wished them success and a safe return. Pte. J. Johnston thanked everyone for their good' wishes and for the presentation and good wishes extended to him and said he would leave the speechmaking to Roy. Pte. Olson amidst much laughter said he had hoped to put the speech business on to Johnnie and as he got in first would just have to do the best he could. He concluded by thanking all for their kindness. Evening Kept Going Music was supplied by Walker’s Orchestra who kept the evening going. Mrs E. Clark played an enjoyable extra while Mr F. Gisler was loudly applauded for his yodelling songs. Miss M.
