INTERESTING RACING EVENTS ON THE DOMAIN PATRIOTIC APPEAL ASSISTED Unfavourable weather conditions marred the Paeroa Harrier Club’s weekly sports meeting held on the Paeroa Domain on Wednesday evening last. Although the weather was against fast times some excellent fields and close finishes were witnessed. A most thrilling finish was witnessed in the junior 100yds., G. Vuglar from syds. getting the decision by inches only from R. McKenzie. Both Vuglar (5) and McKenzie (6) finished very fast over . the last 20 yards to smother all opposition and go on to the’ tape with only inches between them. > R. Laurent a newcomer to the club displayed sound judgment to win the junior 440yds. handicap. The junior mile championship was won by the promising athlete, P. Pennell. Over the first three laps Pennell was content to run along in second place 'behind R. Pearson who made the pace from the start. With a lap to go Pennell went to the front and finishing very fast carried on to win easily with G. Vuglar second and R. Pearson third. The senior mile championship proved a popular victory for the veteran, Jimmy Verran. Verran had little difficulty in disposing of the opposition and was accorded a round of

applause from the spectators as he finished full of running to win the championship. Although the attendance was smaller than usual those present gave very freely in an effort to assist the patriotic appeal, as all the profits from the evening were for that purpose.
