SUCCESSFUL YEAR

PATRIOTIC ACTIVITIES NETHERTON COMMITTEE OFFICERS FOR ENSUING YEAR The annual meeting of the Netherton Patriotic Committee was held at the Netherton Hall on Wednesday night, there being a good attendance. The report and balance sheet were read and showed a good year’s work, the full quota being raised and dispatch of soldiers’ parcels canied out. Mr J. A. Reid, president of the committee thanked all for theii help especially the Netherton W.W.S.A. for theii' special efforts towards soldiers’ parcels and the carnival held to reach the quota. The carnival had been a great success. Officers Elected The committee was re-elected, president, Mr J. A. Reid; vice-presi-dents Mr R. J. Wilson and Mr L. Sanderson; secretary, Mr C. Townshend; treasurer, Mrs L. Johnson. The secretary’s report read as under : — “ I again have to report a successful year’s operations of your committee. The war still goes on but the outlook to-day has much improved since the last report but while our sons and daughters are still serving overseas we must do our bit in our own sphere. “Netherton was again able to reach its quota for the 19’43 All-Purposes Appeal of £287 with a small surplus to carry over to the new year. The committee’s thanks are due . to the Ladies’ Auxiliary who organised and ran a carnival just prior to the end of the year. Without it the quota may not have been reached. “Nine social evenings were held during the year, seven to farewell more of our lads going overseas and two welcoming those returning. A further I'2 Netherton boys and one nursing sister left for overseas during the year making a total of 54 farewelled. “In conclusion I wish to thank all those who have given time and effort to the committee’s activities either with music, * catering or canvassing and trust the same support will be given the incoming committee.”
