To make a neat picot edge on the leg of bloomers when the elastic is worn, make a neat hem, top-sew in the same place three times, then pass needle through hem about half inch, topsew again and repeat. Most useful now elastic is scarce. To restore a discoloured cauliflower to a creamy whiteness add two tablespoons of milk to the water in which it is to be cooked . When making mint sauce, if the mint is dipped in vinegar before being chopped it will keep its bright green colour. If the leaves are washed in water before being chopped they will turn brown.
