MUST BE DESTROYED
HORDES OF HOUSE FLIES TIPS WORTH REMEMBERING These humid summer days bring hordes of house flies and; it is most important to realise that they must be destroyed and not simply driven out. If there is no other means available, the humble fly-swat is a swift and certain way of getting rid of the flies. ■Fly-papers can be made at home if you can get a little resin; First glaze some strips of paper by painting them with a solution of loz. glue melted in 3oz. water. Then warm 4oz. resin with 2£oz. castoi* oil until the resin is melted. Paint this thinly on the glazed paper, and store the papers in an airtight tin to keep them sticky. Flies and mosquitoes greatly dislike the odour of oil of lavender. Before sitting in the garden it is a good plan to rub a few drops on the wrists, ankles and neck. Oil of geranium is also fragrant, and just as good for keeping insects at bay. To clear a room of flies, fill a large bowl with steaming hot water, and into this sprinkle a little lavender. In a short time all the flies will vanish. It has a most refreshing effect upon th® room.
