AIRMAN FAREWELLED
FUNCTION AT WAITAKARURU FLT.SGT. CAIE HONOURED On Monday night, September 6 a dance was held in the Waitakaruru Hall to enable the residents to wish Godspeed to one of the boys. FlightSgt. Caie who has recently finished his training, and is now awaiting orders to proceed overseas. He is the son of the well-known Waitakaruru farmer, Mr Sam Caie and is married with two children.
Mr George Paton, chairman of the Farewell Committee made a cash presentation to the guest of the evening, wishing, him all the best from the people of the district with a “happy landing” in the near future. On hehalf of the Gun Club, Mr Charles Thomasen presented “Bernie” with a cheque as a mark of goodwill from its members, who he has been associated with • in the past, and expressed the hope that the day would not be far distant when he would once more be using the rifle on the more peaceable rafoge than the one he was going to. The following ladies were present: Mesdames S, Caie, B. Caie, G. Caie, Lozell, Dick, Hinton, Paton, Pacey, Donaldson, Cooper (Waerenga), . Hedges, Crosbie, Cropp, Harris, Leach (Miranda), Bathurst, McKee (Dunedin), and the Misses Dick (who is secretary of the Farewell Committee), Thomasen, Rountree, Fish, Edlin, A. French, M. French, E. McKay, F. McKay, Donaldson, Adams, Lozell, E. Kei*h, J. KePh, Gordon, S. and M. Pehry (Miranda), E. Wallis (’Pipfroa).
