HAURAKI A. & P. ASSN. SUCCESS OF LAST SHOW PRESIDENT’S ANNUAL REPORT “Your committee have pleasure in presenting the 44th. annual report and statement of accounts for year ending March 31, 1943, and I congratulate the members on the healthy state of their association’s finances,” stated the annual report presented by the president, Mr B. E. Veale, to Saturday’s annual meeting of the Hauraki Agricultural and Pastoral Association. The report added:— “The annual show on a restricted schedule was held on Saturday, November 28, 1942, and although the weather conditions were most unfavourable for a show the day proved to be a most successful one. “The schedule was limited to ring and horse events together with children’s competitions and Calf Club events. This was agreed upon at a special meeting and was made necessary on account of war conditions and restricitions on travel facilities. Entries were good in all ring events and competition was keen throughout. The championships were won by:—Champion hunter: Mr J. R. Wilson’s D’Artagnan. Champion hack: Mrs M. E. Roan’s Glencoe.
“ A special feature at the show was an exhibition of sheep dog trial work given by Mi’ R. S. Cleaver, of Morrinsville. Your committee is indebted to Mr Cleaver for his willingness to assist and for the excellence of his exhibition. War Loan Investment
“The balance sheet discloses 1 a very satisfactory position. The year’s operations, after allowing £4O 14s for depreciation and donating £2O towards
Patriotic Funds, resulted in a net profit of £lO4 16s lid. The assets 1 total £1167 6s Bd, with liabilities practically nil. Included in the assets as at March 31, 1943, is a credit balance at the National Bank of £275 9s lOd. Since the closing of accounts £lOO of the above credit has been invested in War. Loan through a Post Office National War' Savings Account.,
“The association’s property is being well maintained and the arrangements with our tenants, the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., continue to be very satisfactory. “ I desire as your president to thank all who have assisted in the year’s operations. The judges who officiated I at the show, the stewards and their l helpers, the supporters who made donations towards our prize funds and also to ‘all members for their continued support. I thank the Ohinemuri Jockey Club Committee for their cooperation and also the editor of the Hauraki Plains Gazette for publicity given our activities. Farmers’ War Effort Before concluding this report, I want to congratulate the farmers of this district for the manner they have been carrying on with farming operations under the existing- and trying war conditions, viz., shortage of labour, limitation of fertilisers and the curtailment of many other necessary requirements. These conditions have necessitated the working of longer hours both for the farmers and their families and have brought many women and children into the cowsheds to assist in carrying on. I again repeat my appeal made last year to all primary producers to do their utmost to maintain and increase their production and to conserve theii’ resources wit}] the object of assisting. to the limit of their capacity in the national war effort.”
