MEETING HELD AT NGATEA AN ENJOYABLE AFTERNOON Miss Paul presided over a very good l attendance at the September meeting of the Ngatea Women’s Institute. The meeting opened with the singing of the institute song’ and the reading of the institute prayer. Mrs Barriball acted as secretary as Mrs H. Dalgety, the secretary, was indisposed. Routine business and correspondence were dealt with and final arrangements were made for the birthday programme which will be given next month.

The roll call, “A plant in the garden and itsi uses in the home,” was’ very well answered with many helpful suggestions. Miss White of Kopuarahi gave a very interesting and attractive demonstration on the making of wool posies from oddments of wool. This demonstration was followed by two readings, “The Telling of Fairy Stories,” and an extract from “The Sentimental Bloke.” Both were very well read and very much appreciated. At the conclusion of her readings, Miss White was loudly applauded and presented with a beautiful shoulder spray by the president.

The winners of the various competitions were:—

Best bloom. —Miss Paul 1, Mrs R. B. Paul 2. Vase of bulb flowers.—Miss Irwin 1, Mrs T. Wheeler 2.

Best silver beet.-—Miss Irwin 1, Mrs Paul 2. Vase of flowers.—Mrs Wheeler 1, Mrs Paul 2.

A very delightful afternoon tea was served l by the hostesses, Mesdames Tatton, Darlington and G. Birkenhead.
