OBITUARY

MR ALEXANDER SAMSON FORMER PLAINS RESIDENT The death has occurred of Mr Alexander (Sandy) Samson, of Frankton. Born at Pokeno 77 years ago, Mr Samson spent the early years of his life at Thames, later removing to Waiorongomai, where he engaged in goldmining. For 30 years he was shift boss in the Martha Mine at Waihi. Mr Samson was the first Chief Rangei' of the Foresters’ Lodge formed in Waihi and was well-known in sporting circles as a footballer and rifle shot. Mr Samson subsequently farmed on the Hauraki Plains before retiring to Frankton. He was a prominent member of the Frankton Bowling Club. Mr Samson is survived by his wife, four sons and two daughters. There are 15 grandchildren.

MR E. C. SHEAF PERIOD SPENT IN THAMES The death has occurred of Mr Edwin Charles (Sheaf, at the age of 68 years. Born in Auckland in 1875, he was the only son of one of the original Albertland settlers. In his 1 younger days he was a great lover of horses and for a number of years was a keen huntsman. He was, also a very active member of “A” Battery of the National Volunteer Reserve, in which he served for 18 years. The late Mr Sheaf was engaged as an accountant for many years, and later went into the hotel trade in Thames and Auckland. He retired from business 18 years ago and lived ing Auckland, going to the Waikato two years ago. He was well known in Masonic circles, being a member of Lodge Waitemafa, E.C. He is survived by his wife and two sons, Mr Douglas Sheaf, Rotorua,, and Mr 'Selwyn Sheaf, Hamilton, and four grandchildren.
