RAIL TO KARANGAHAKE GOLDEN STONE ROBBERY LONG NIGHT AT DANCING CLASS (From the Ohinemuri Gazette of ' August 27, 1903.) We learn from a most reliable source that the railway to Karangahake will be opened for goods traffic some time next month. Our information also states that probably provision will also be made for passenger traffic. The timber for the station at Karangahake is under order, and as soon as it arrives a start will be made to erect the station. The Coromandel paper reports that a robbery of golden stone took place from the Royal Oak Mine, between 4 p.m. ph Wednesday and 8 a.m. on Thursday. Messrs John Chapman and James Martin, tributers, made a haul of stone .on Wednesday afternoon, , and planted it, intending to take it to the battery next day. On going to work on Thursday morning they were sorrowfully made aware that someone had paid them a visit during the night, as about 1 cwt. of the golden stone had been abstracted. The matter is in the hands of the police. There was a very large attendance at the Choral Hall on Wednesday evening, when the first long night of the second quarter of Mrs Sanderson and Miss Millgrew’s dancing class was held. The music was supplied by Mr Mettam’s band, and was, as usual very much appreciated. During the evening extras were played by Misses McGeehan, Wilson and McNamara. Supper was handed round at abdut ten o’clock, after which dancing continued merrily until midnight, when a most enjoyable and successful evening was brought to a close.
