FORTY YEARS AGO

AUCKLAND FOOTBALLERS OHINEMURI JOCKEY CLUB PAEROA BRASS BAND PRACTICE (From the Ohinemuri Gazette of August 25, 1903.) The Auckland Junior Football Team, under the management of Mr Braund, arrived in Paeroa on Saturday morning, and put up at the Paeroa hotel. In the forenoon the visitors were taken to Karangahake and shown through the mines and batteries, and expressed themselves as delighted with the outing. They left Paeroa on the return trip to Auckland on Sunday morning. The annual meeting of members of the Ohinemuri Jockey Club will be held in the Criterion Theatre on Monday evening next. Amongst other business to be transacted is the election of four members of the committee, for which the following have been nominated:— Messrs H. R. Bush, P. Lloyd Francis, F. M. Griffiths, J. E. Hunt, A. D. McGuire, W. G. Nicholls, S. Nelson and E. Rab'bidge. The first practice of members of the Paeroa Brass Band since its re-formation was held last night, when there were so many members present that it was found that there were not sufficient instruments to go all round. Evidently there will be plenty of players when the band is put on a proper foundation.
