WOMEN’S INSTITUTE
MEETING OF PAEROA BRANCH INTEREST IN COMPETITIONS There was a good attendance of members when the usual monthly meeting of the Paeroa Women’s Institute was held on Tuesday, August 15. Mrs E. M. Hill presided, giving the monthly motto: “A cheery smile and a howdy do, may change the day from grey to blue.” Several new members were welcomed. Minutes of last meeting were read and passed and correspondence dealt with satisfactorily. Mrs V. Turton kindly offered to pack and forward members’ gifts’ to the Red Cross Stall to be held in Auckland. Reports were given of the Drama Circle, Garden Club and Patriotic Committee. The keen interest taken by the members in the monthly competitions was in evidence by the growing number of entrants. Special mention should be made of the splendid display of bulb flowers entered by members of the Garden Club. Following afternoon tea interval, Mrs M. A. Hollinshead gave a talk on “London” which was very interesting and humorous. The birthday bouquet was presented to Mrs Tate. Winners of the monthly competitions were: — Marmalade.—Mrs E. Marsh 1. ; patchwork cushion top.—Mrs E. Marsh 1. Best bloom.—Mrs M. A. Hollinshead 1. Garden Club. —Best vegetable: Mrs E. Marsh. Bulb flowers: Mrs M. A. Hollinshead. * Wandering shilling.—Mrs C. Parkinson.
