KARANGAHAKE ROAD
COMPLAINT FROM PROSPECTOR COUNTY UNABLE TO HELP Forwarded to the Ohinemuri County Council for their comment, a letter received by Mr J. Thorn, M.P., from R. Schulzke, of Karangahake, complaining of the state of No. 8 and County road around the back of the Trig station, was read at the council’s monthly meeting. The writer mentioned that nothing had been heard from the county coun-
cil in reference to previous representations about the road, which was overgrown with gorse and fern and offered little inducement to prospectors to go gold-hunting in the neighbourhood. He thought the old pioneers should be considered, even if the younger generation did not seem to bother about prospecting. While sympathy was expressed by councillors with the writer’s desire for encouragement of the old prospectors, it was stated that the prospects did not justify much expenditure on a road of the class mentioned, though some speakers wondered if the Mines Department would be prepared to do anything in the matter.
It was resolved that the letter be referred, back to Mr Thorn, with an expression of regret that the council was unable to do anything in the matter.
