RUGBY ON PLAINS
MATCH AT WAITAKARURU MAORIS PLAY DRAWN GAME A rugby match was played on the Waitakaruru Domain on Saturday between Kauaua Maoris and Waitakaruru Maoris. Conditions were not very favourable, but it was an even game. Kauaua did most of the attack and were unlucky that they did not score a couple of times. F. Leonard for Waitakaruru was outstanding in forward rushes. Time and time again he broke away with the ball at toe, only to lose it because of no assistance from his team mates. Kauaua backs had the advantage and handled the greasy ball exceptionally well. Waitakaruru’s forwards were 'better. Peter Reti played a fine game for Waitakaruru as fullback. The result of the game was a draw with no score. Mr C. Hinton acted as referee. After the game hot pies and tea were supplied by the Waitakaruru Women’s Institute, which were appreciated by the players. Mrs McLean was convener.
