NATIONAL PARTY
COROMANDEL MEETING ADDRESS BY MR W. CLARK PROBLEMS FACING DOMINION A meeting of the Coromandel branch of the New Zealand National Party was held in Coromandel recently when Mr W. A. Clark addressed a fair at tendance of the public. He opened his remarks by stating that the National Party did not want an election and that it was definitely untrue when it had been said that they had sought one. In the course of his address he touched on the wonderful work being done by the women of New Zealand, and said that anyone who contributed to the cause of humanity was entitled to consideration.
He spoke of the preaching of class legislation in the past where class agitators incited one section against the other. “In the past seven years,” he -went one, “there have been 437 strikes in New Zealand.”
The need of homes ' for the boys when they returned was stressed by Mr Clark. Many married men would be returning, whose wives had been working during their absence overseas and they would want homes. A large number of single ones would be marrying and there were no homes for
them and that brought the country to the question of rehabilitation. The necessary legislation had been passed, and local bodies had been asked to form committees but that seemed as far as it had gone.
The need for private enterprise instead of increasing the civil services was stressed by Mr Clark. He concluded his address by saying a few words about the leader of the National Party. There was no one more qualified than Mr Holland, and none more able to lead the House.
At'the conclusion of his address Mr Howell who was in the chair asked if anyone present wished to ask any questions. No questions being forthcoming, a hearty vote of thanks to Mr Clark was proposed by Mr G. Mannion and seconded by Mr C. S. A.'Geard.
A vote of thanks was also passed to the chair.
