A GOOD YEAR

TAIRUA DAIRY COMPANY 21ST. ANNUAL MEETING CHAIRMAN REVIEWS SEASON The annual general meeting of shareholders of the Tairua Dairy Company was held in the Hikuai Hall recently, and was marked by a good attendance. The chairman, Mr J. R. McCall, in presenting the company’s 21st. annual report and 'balance sheet, told the shareholders that the season had commenced very favourably and that a record output was anticipated, but owing to an exceptionally dry autumn those hopes were not realised. However, there was a slight increase owing to more cows being milked. Costs Increased Costs generally had substantially increased, he said, but an increase in pay-out was made possible by an advance in the guaranteed price. The average grade for the season was not what it might have been and was due partly to trouble throughout the season with the vacreator and to a poor shipping service for the butter to Auckland. As the vacreator was now in good order, said the chairman, a considerable improvement in grade was anticipated during the coming

season. The balance sheet was then discussed at length by the shareholders. Messrs Russell and Coxon, who re-

tired by rotation, were again elected as directors. Another vacancy, caused by the resignation of Mr Milleau, a director, who had left the district, was filled by the election of Mr B. Hamilton. The chairman’s proposal to finance farmers in the purchase of pedigree bulls, as a means of increasing the average production, met with the approval of the suppliers. Successful Deputation ■ The chairman announced that the council’s deputation^ to Wellington had been successful in getting the farmable land up the valley released from the forestry. Mr Bert Hamilton, in speaking of the land settlement scheme and the Kauaeranga road, said that this was a great step forward. Although it was as yet hardly in the blue print stage, they have at least formed a nucleus on which they could, with some confidence, build their hopes for the future for dairying in the district. Thanks Extended Mr Hamilton then moved that it be placed on record the suppliers’ appreciation for the efforts of Cr. McCall, the Thames Chamber of Commerce, Mr Thorn and Mr Bryan, in bringing about the results so far achieved. This was carried by acclamation. The meeting concluded with a hearty vote of thanks to the chairman.
