Marshall, presiding. Others present were Messrs Edwin Edwards, J. H. Walmsley, E. J. Wilton, H. C. Jackson, Mrs J. R. Reid and the secretary, Mr T. E. Owen. An apology was received from Mr J. Thorn, M.P., who asked to be excused owing to pressure of work. The secretary gave a summary of the cause of the meeting, explaining the assistance which would be given to the Rehabilitation Officer by the committee, in helping with any problems of rehabilitation; that is in placing men back into civilian occupations with future prospects and the considering of applicants desirous of securing loans for the purpose of purchasing a business, farm, house, etc. Also forming a close liaison with the Rehabilitation Officer at all times. A resolution was passed asking the secretary to write suggesting that the boundaries of territory be as follows':— Thames. —As far as Townshend road. Waihi.—Waihi end of the Karangahake Gorge. Te Aroha.—To Waitoki stream. Ngatea.—Nether ton (Peka Peka road). Re-establishment League The secretary asked permission to introduce Mr McNeil, representative foi’ the Disabled Soldiers’ Re-Establish-ment League.’ Mr McNeil gave the committee an outline of the work of the league which was to assist exservicemen to make the initial start in establishing themselves in future civil occupations. The league, he said, would deal mainly with men who had lost confidence in themselves and who need assistance to help them breach the space between Army life and civil life. A sub-committee was set up comprising Messrs Edwards, Walmsley, Wilton and Jackson, who can be called upon and were given the powers to deal with urgent matters which may crop up between the meetings. Land Settlement A pamphlet, a report by the Lands Committee on Soldiers’ Land Settlement, was handed to each member of the committee. The chairman asked the members to read, the report as it would give the committee a good working policy in matters concerning the re-establishment of ex-servicemen on to the land. It was moved by the chairman, “that the next meeting of the Paeroa Rehabilitation Committee take place at 7.30 p.m. in the Ohinemuri County Chambers on September 14, 1943.”
