CHRISTIAN ORDER In a joint statement signed in 1941 by leaders alike of episcopal and non-episcopal churches in Britain, “five standards” were proposed to guide statesmen in solving post-war economic and social problems. Here are some of the things on which common ground of agreement was found: Extreme inequality of wealth should be abolished; every child, regardless of race or class, should have equal opportunities for education, suited to its particular capacities; the family as a social unit should be safeguarded; the sense of a divine vocation must be restored to man’s daily work; and, finally, the resources of the earth should be used as God’s gifts to the whole human race, and with due consideration for the needs of present and future generations.
