A RELIGIOUS THOUGHT
CHRISTIAN ORDER In a joint statement signed in 1941 by leaders alike of episcopal and non-episcopal churches in Britain, “five standards” were proposed to guide statesmen in solving post-war economic and social problems. Here are some of the things on which common ground of agreement was found: Extreme inequality of wealth should be abolished; every child, regardless of race or class, should have equal opportunities for education, suited to its particular capacities; the family as a social unit should be safeguarded; the sense of a divine vocation must be restored to man’s daily work; and, finally, the resources of the earth should be used as God’s gifts to the whole human race, and with due consideration for the needs of present and future generations. Christianity in practice!
