DAIRIES CLOSE TO PROFIT SALE HELD AT MORRINSVILLE The Farmers’ Co-operative Auctioneering Co., Ltd., report having held their weekly stock sale -at Morrinsville on Friday when a small yarding of cow beef, sold freely and realised full values. Values for a medium entry of boner cows remained unchanged. Yearling Jersey heifers were in demand with prices in advance of last sale.
A small yarding of dairy cattle comprising principally heifers came forward. Competition for good quality heifers close to profit was keen and recent improved rates were fully maintained.
A small yarding of fat sheep sold well up to recent rates.' A good yarding of fat lambs also met with good competition and sold at late rates. A very large yarding of pigs was penned, the bulk of the entry consisting of store pigs and breeding sows, very few fat pigs being penned. 'Competition for all classes was very steady, prices remaining firm. A small yarding of store lambs met with a good demand and sold well at current rates.
A small entry of breeding ewes was offered. Competition was keener than at recent sales and a total clearance was effected at increased rates. Quotations :■ —
Cattle.—Light fat Jersey cows, £6 10s to £7 10s; heavy boner cows, £4 5s to £5; medium boner cows. £3 5s to £4; store, cows, £2 to £2 15s; 2-year empty Jersey heifers, £3 to £3 12s 6d; medium yearling Jersey heifers, £4 to £4 10s; small yearling Jersey heifers, £3 to £3 15s.
Dairy cattle.—'Good quality Jersey and Jersey close to profit, £ll 10s to £l2 10s; Jersey and Jersey-Cross, £lO to £11; July calvers, medium heifers, £9 to £9 15s; smaller and backward, £6 10s to £8; good quality cows close to profit, £9 to £lO.
Sheep.—Fat wethers, to 28s; light B.F. 2th. wethers, 23s 9d; fat lambs, heavy 24s 3d to 25s 3d, medium 21s 6d to 23s 6d, light 18s to 20s 6d.
Store lambs.—Good W.F. wether lambs, to 225; medium, to 16s; small, to Ils; ewe lambs, medium, to 18s; small, ,11s; 2th. wethers, 8.F., 20s. Breeding ewes.—2th. ewes, S.D. rams, to 31s; 4 and 6th. ewes, Romney rams, to 265; mixed aged ewes, to. 23s 6d; 4-yr. ewes, S.D. rams, 255; aged ewes, 19s.
Pigs.—Choppers, £2 to £7 7s 6d; baconers, £4 4s to £4 11s; buttermilk pigs and heavy porkers, £2 18s to £3 12s; medium porkers, £2 12s to £2 16s; light, £2 4s to £2 10s; large stores, £2 10s to £2 17s; smaller, £2 to £2 8s; slips, 30s to 36s 6d; weaners, 20s to
26s 6d; maiden Devon sows, to farrow, £6 15s to £7 ss; older sows, £4 10s to £6 15s; sows with litters, £7 to £l4.
