£387 COLLECTED

ALL PURPOSES APPEAL PENINSULA DONATIONS £1590 TO BE RAISED THIS YEAR That of the £1590 allotted to the Coromandel Peninsula to collect for the 1943 All Purposes Appeal to date £387 2s 5d had been donated was disclosed by the secretary of the Coromandel Inter-Zone Patriotic Committee, Mr J. H. Lucas, in the followingcircular letter- to sub-committees. The letter reads as under:—

£1590' £387 2 5 “During the month £135 has been paid in, which is quite good, but still as shown above some parts of the county have sent in nothing I am sure there is money about although the month of June seems to be about the worst month for collecting over the past three years so let us look forward to quite a big effort by all parts of the county during July. Woollen Goods “ I have just packed up and sent on to Thames a parcel containing 27 scarves, 35 balaclavas, 24 pairs sox, 12 pairs mittens. The ladies of the sub-committees who have made this parcel possible are very cordially thanked. There is still more wool on hand and more knitters are wanted, Since the commencement of patriotic knitting this inter-zone has forwarded the following made-up goods:—Balaclavas, 442; scarves, 288; pullovers, 5; gloves, 12 pairs; mittens, 293 pairs; sox, 195 pairs; total, 1215 articles.

, “The Liberty Loan appeal by the Government is nearing its end as J write this and so we must all get back to the idea of giving instead of saving. The patriotic appeal is to everyone to give as much as they are able to supplement what is provided for the members of the Armed Forces. Remember that “it is more blessed to give than to receive.’ “I read in the Coromandel and Mercury Bay Gazette this week of the wonderful effort at Mercury Bay. There is much to commend the splendid effort especially during the period while the Government is carrying on its campaign for the Liberty Loan. I would like to hear of other efforts like this which we might term ‘blitz’ methods of collecting.”
