CARD AFTERNOON

FUNCTION HELD IN PAEROA

PATRIOTIC FUNDS ASSISTED

Both the lounge and sitting room at the Commercial Hotel were packed to capacity when a card afternoon was held last Thursday. The hostesses, Mesdames P. R. Hubbard, F. C. Hubbard and W. F. Johnstone welcomed the ladies present and a most enjoyable afternoon was spent. The excellent sum of approximately £l7 was raised and this is to swell the 1943 Patriotic All Purposes Appeal. Special thanks were accorded Mrs E. P. Fathers for her, generosity in throwing open her rooms for the large gathering. Winners of the various games were as follows:— Bridge.—Mrs Oldham 1, Mrs J. A. Reid 2, Mrs Chisholm consolation. 500.—Mrs G. Elvidge 1, Mrs Hopping 2, Mrs H. Morrison consolation. Winners of two competitions held were Mrs W. Weadon and Mrs R. L. Darley. A great deal of preparation and thought is spent in organising a function of this kind and it is creditable indeed to see the enthusiasm of all those who help towards the success.
