THE THIMBLE
| HOLLANDER’S INVENTION I —— The modern thimble was invented by a Hollander 150 years ago. Paris dressmaking houses recently celebrated the anniversary of this important member of the sewing family by parties in honour of the inventor. The word thimble comes from the same old English word that means thumb. In former days the thimble used to be worn on the thumb. | Buy two pairs of sixpenny earings in plain white or pearl, and when you ■ want earings to match your ensemble do them over with nail-varnish to tone. When dry, polish with a soft cloth or chamois. When you want to change the colour, remove with polish remover and treat as before.-
